Mercedes is a German car manufacturer that recently split from it's owner DaimlerChrysler in 2007. The history of the company can be traced back as far as 1871 through the alliance of Daimler-Benz.

Background

Mercedes reputation for hewn-from-solid build quality has taken a massive pounding lately. The M Class featured bottom of various reliability surveys and there has been quality issues throughout the range.

Mercedes have tried to reassure all and sundry that they are back on track and there have some improvements of late but the huge model range with niche model after niche model would suggest that they're going to struggle to maintain previous quality standards.
